The Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC) is pleased to announce tax abatement approvals for two projects at the April 17, 2018 Michigan City Common Council meeting.  Both projects received approval from the Michigan City Common Council for tax abatement on real property for two businesses investing in Michigan City.  Michigan City Hotels, LLC is the realty company for Amerilodge Group which is planning a new Holiday Inn Express & Suites Hotel on the city’s south side on Kieffer Road.  Construction of the four story and 58,000 square foot facility will be a total capital investment of $7.2 million and create 25 new positions.  This newly built property will feature the brand’s recently introduced “Formula Blue” design and will include 90 rooms, meeting rooms, swimming pool, fitness center, and breakfast bar for guests to enjoy.  The projected completion date for the project in March of 2019.  “Amerilodge Group is excited about the market in Michigan City and happy to work with them on this project,” said Amerilodge CEO and President, Asad Malik.

Mulhern Belting, Inc. is a conveyor belt manufacturer and wholesaler that has been in Michigan City for over five years and due to increase business growth is expanding their current facility located on Lumber Center Road.  Mulhern Realty Company, acting on behalf of Mulhern Belting, Inc., is receiving a tax abatement for the construction of an additional 14,000 square foot facility on their property.   Construction of the facility and new equipment purchases will be an investment of $1 million which will retain the current 15 employees and add up to 10 employees over the next five years.  Receipt of the tax abatement will allow the company to expand as needed and retain their business here in Michigan City.   

Both tax abatements, which were approved by the Michigan City Common Council at a meeting on April 17, 2018, will total $8.2 million in investment, retain 15 employees, and create up to 35 new employee positions in Michigan City.  “The Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC) is proud to partner with new and existing businesses to help them remain and grow in Michigan City.
