The Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, Indiana (EDCMC) is happy to announce Jenilee Haynes Peterson as its new Economic Development Manager. Peterson was recently added to the team at EDCMC at the beginning of January to provide continued focus on the Business Retention and Expansion program, building community partnerships, and Workforce Development initiatives.

“Jenilee brings to us a diverse background and experiences in community partnerships, small business management and hospitality. She is also the perfect example of the boomerang effect – homegrown talent who leaves but return home with new skills” said Clarence Hulse, Executive Director of EDCMC. He continued that she will be an important asset as the EDCMC is looking forward to enhance our talent recruitment strategy in the next 3 years.

Peterson brings with her several years of management experience and business development. During her time with Ideology Entertainment, a Chicago restaurant group, Peterson assisted in operations from construction to managing and training. Most recently Peterson was with Duneland Chamber of Commerce, as the Accounting Manager.

Born and raised in Michigan City, she spent over a decade away from home in DC and Chicago but wanted to raise her new family in her hometown. “I am really excited about coming home and looking forward to playing a role in the improvement and development of my hometown” stated Peterson, “Michigan City has undergone significant growth and many positive changes, I am truly excited about the City’s future and want to be part of it.”

Peterson is a graduate of Michigan City Area Schools and attended Purdue University West Lafayette where she graduated with a degree in Public Health. In December of 2018, Peterson obtained her Master’s in Business Administration from Western Governors University. Having a passion for community and small business, Peterson serves as a SCORE small business mentor. She also recently completed the Basic Economic Development Course at Ball State University. Peterson is active with Girls on the Run and Xcel 2 Fitness and lives in Michigan City with her husband and daughter.
