Clarence Hulse, Executive Director
Clarence brings a long and proven history of success to the EDCMC, particularly being a change agent. His past experiences include Community and Economic Development Manager for the City of New Bern, North Carolina, Director of Economic Development for the City of Jeffersonville, and Deputy City Manager of Cocoa Florida, to name a few. Clarence is credited in creating over 30,000+ jobs and over a $1 billion+ in capital investment over the past 20 years. He has won both state and national awards for his work in the community and economic development arena.
His memberships and community involvement include Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers, Leadership Florida, Leadership Southern Indiana, Leadership La Porte County, United Way La Porte County, Workforce Development Boards, State Economic Development and Redevelopment Associations, and Planning and Zoning Boards. He is currently serving his second term as a board member of the International Economic Development Council.
Clarence earned his BS at Harding University, AR in Public Administration, magna cum laude and an MS in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute.
Katie Eaton, Economic Development Manager
Katie is a lifelong resident in the Michigan City area and brings with her a passion for this growing and vibrant community. Katie’s past work experiences include workforce development, nonprofit management, community development, program management, recruitment, fundraising, and marketing.
Katie is a graduate of Michigan City Area Schools and attended local Purdue University North Central where she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree and most recently her Master’s in Business Administration. Katie has served as a member of the Purdue Alumni Association for several years and is the current President for the Purdue Northwest Alumni Organization. She lives in the area with her husband Jeff and their three children who attend Michigan City Area Schools.
Michele Hyland, Office Administrator
Michele Hyland was born and raised in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood of Chicago. Having lived in New Orleans and Baltimore, she was glad to come back to the Midwest in 2015 and now calls Valparaiso her home. Before moving back home, she was the Secretary for her community organization for two years bringing in new ideas, creating an online and physical presence and working with local leaders to help stabilize a city that lost its largest employer at the time. With an administrative and human resources background, Michele has worked in many industries including hospitality, financial, manufacturing, agricultural and healthcare. She is excited to be on a team working to revitalize and grow a city that has so much to offer.
